Summer Enrichment Program



-Mr. Kerr’s Summer Enrichment Program-

This summer, incoming middle school students (6th, 7th and 8th grade) will have the opportunity for enrichment classes with a focus on study skills, the sciences and social studies. Each session will focus on an area of study that will be relevant for the school year ahead.  ALL classes will be held in the Cabrini Science Lab starting on June 14th.

Each session is $25 per class or $350 for ALL sessions. Study skills, classroom organization and lab reports are included with registration.  I also will be available in July for individual tutoring.

Sciences:
·         Topic #1: Physical Science (Part 1): Emphasis on Newton’s Laws of Motion, Gravity & Simple Machines

·         Topic #2: Physical Science (Part 2): Discussion of Waves, Energy, Sound, Magnets & Light

·         Topic #3: Life Science (Part 1): Discussion of  Cell Structure, Cell Organelles, Classification, Genetics & the Human Body

·         Topic #4: Life Science (Part 2): Emphasis on Photosynthesis, Plants, Animals & continuation of Classifications

·         Topic #5: Earth Science (Part 1): Emphasis on Rocks, Minerals, Fossils, Prehistoric Times & Natural Resources (renewable/non-renewable)

·         Topic #7: Astronomy: Emphasis on the Solar System, Planets, Stars, Galaxies & the Universe

·         Topic #8: Chemistry (Part 1): Discussion of the States of Matter, the Periodic Table, Dmitri Mendeleev & the Elements

·         Topic #9: Chemistry (Part 2): Atoms, Mixtures, Solutions & Chemical Bonds

·         Topic #10: Doing a Lab Report, Research & Following the Scientific Method (FREE!)

Social Studies:
·         Topic #11: American History (Part 1): Emphasis on the original colonies, the French-Indian War, the founding fathers, the American Revolution, the War of 1812 & the Civil War

·         Topic #12: American History (Part 2): Continuing with the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, the Spanish-American War, the Great Depression, World War I & World War II

·         Topic #13 American History (Part 3): Post WWII, the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War, Korean War and Vietnam War

·         Topic #14: European History (Part 1): Emphasis on ancient cultures such as Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Spanish & English

·         Topic #15: European History (Part 2): Continuing with English culture and an emphasis on Russian, German & French cultures

8th Grade is in Washington D.C. all week… 8th grade graduation is next Tuesday (31st).

7th Grade Final Exam on Chapters 12 & 19 is next Thursday.

6th Grade Test on Chapters 9 & 10 is next Thursday.

There is a FREE Jeans Day tomorrow.

I will NOT be here Thursday… No school Friday and Monday (Memorial Day Weekend).

36th Week of School



8th Grade Science Final Exam is today & tomorrow.

Candle Passing Mass is tomorrow.  Father Tim will be touring the schools tomorrow with Father Joe after Mass.

½ Day and last day for 8th Grade is Friday.  8th Grade is Washington D.C. all next week.

Cereal Drive is Friday… if you bring in a box of cereal you get a FREE Jeans Day! & 8th grade volleyball game vs. the teachers is Friday as well (something I can mention we have never lost).

8th Grade Graduation is May 31st.

35th Week of School



7th Grade was on a field trip today to the African-American Museum and Detroit History Museum.

8th Grade Study Guide was due today.  They will get them back tomorrow.

There is a $1.00 Jeans Day Friday to support the NJHS Dance Marathon for the CS Mott Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Unit.

I will NOT be in school this Friday.

8th Grade Final Exam is next Tuesday.

There is a ½ Day next Friday.

7th Grade Final Exam is June 2nd.

6th Grade Unit Test is June 2nd.
